Wow, just when things were going smoothly with a routine well-estabished, we decided to create chaos again in our household. A week ago we adopted Heidi, a 6 1/2 month old miniature schnauzer from a local family. So much for sleeping in, something I had hoped to enjoy for a few months before baby arrived. Not anymore. . .Cooper and Heidi are both raring to go when "daddy" gets up at 5:30 in the morning. Heidi also gets up once in the middle of the night for potty time, which is my duty as Brett snores away.
Brett chose the breed in case y'all are wondering where we came up with miniature schnauzer. His parents own a well-behaved mini schnauz, and Cooper loved the one at our vet's office whenever he visited. Heidi is thus far pretty well-behaved, although still many puppy tendencies to work on. If possible she has as much energy as Cooper and is more dominant. She pulls toys out of his mouth and knocks him away when he's getting attention from us. I do think it'll be great when baby arrives for them to have each other for entertainment. They do nothing but wrestle and play tug-of-war for HOURS. It's a little noisy, but they're having fun. And unlike Cooper, Heidi is crate trained and does very well with sleeping and resting in her crate when we're off at work. I'll post more photos at another time, but getting her (or them for that matter) to hold still is impossible unless she's sleeping. My favorite Heidi feature is her ear that flops over like a bunny while the other stands straight up. I guess most schnauzers have their ears formed with bands or something when they're younger, and she escaped that fun. It's just so cute to see her running with her ears that way. . . wish us luck with the chaos, and let me know if anyone knows of reliable pet sitters in the Auburn/Opelika area that can handle two very energetic munchkins.
