First (Real) Beach Trip

Way back in March we attempted our first mini trip to Sandestin. If you remember, it poured the whole time; Jackson never got to touch his sweet little piggies to the sand. Fast forward four months, and we took our first real family vacation to the beach in Destin. Needless to say, Jackson was just fine without the sand on his last trip and could've done without it this go round as well. He HATED it - as the photos show. The ocean was great until he realized salt water doesn't feel as good as bath/pool water in your eyes. So the pool was our mainstay for him.

Nana and MoMo made it down for half of our vacation and allowed Brett and I a date night dinner and some time at the pool to actually relax. Thanks Nana and MoMo!! While it should've been common sense, my brain is still missing from when I gave it to Jackson to hold during child birth, and I didn't realize vacations are not relaxing trips. Instead, you cram all your stuff into a vehicle (or as much as the vehicle will hold), relocate to a smaller space that isn't child-proofed with fewer toys to entertain your child, and just hope for 30 minutes a day when you can read a book so you can claim you relaxed during your vacation. Why did no one tell me about this? I totally understand now why some parents opt to take babysitters on vacation with the family. We may go that route next year. Regardless, it was nice to be near water and away from work with Daddy with us as well. I'm still awestruck at how much Jackson looks like a "big boy" when he's decked out in his swim trunks and pool gear. Scary! He's nine months old today (shots Monday - ick!), and I just want to soak this time up because it's going by so very, very fast. . .
Completely unamused by the fact sand moves from under your feet when the waves come in.

Hooray for the pool! MoMo wanted to try dunking Jackson under water, but Mommy quickly vetoed that suggestion.

Loved to sit and splash in the baby pool (here with Nana) and socialize with all the other toddler pool-goers.
I just love his surfer boy beach outfit. Doesn't he look so grown up?! Scary!

You are so right about 'vacations'. Thank goodness for grandparents and their help! Jackson is so cute and really starting to look more like a toddler. We would love to have a playdate soon!

So...what kind of car IS it that you crammed all that stuff into for your vacation? it's still driving me crazy! :) and are you still working, or are you staying home now?
